Attorneys for Levi Aron, charged with the kidnapping, murder and dismemberment of 8-year old Leiby Kletzky in Brooklyn on July 12th, said, Thursday morning, that their client is competent to stand trial. A plea of not guilty was entered for Aron at an arraignment hearing in Brooklyn.
Aron was placed on a suicide watch since his arrest on July 13th and attorneys have been launching an insanity defense; claiming that Aron manifests psychotic symptoms such as hearing voices and experiencing hallucinations. Attorney JenniferMcCann said that the finding of competency to stand trial does not preclude them from going ahead with this line of defense. While Aron confessed to the killing, authorities said they were continuing to work on verifying his explanation for the boy's death.
