U.S. Debt Rating Upheld, But Outlook is Negative

Moody’s Investors Service confirmed on Tuesday the United States’ AAA rating following the approval of the debt ceiling agreement, but at the same time assigned a negative outlook to the U.S. debt.

A negative outlook means the rating agency could lower the rating in the next 12 to 18 months. U.S. debt has held the AAA rating since 1917.
