The daughter of one of the men arrested Tuesday on suspicion of abuse in a polygamous cult spoke in his defense in an interview with Channel 10 news. She denied that her father had hit his wives or children.
She also argued that marrying multiple women is normal, claiming, “A secular man doesn't have only one woman, he has maybe four or six or even seven times that.”
Leaders of the polygamous sect were arrested after a woman in her 20s, a former member of the sect, reported them to the Welfare Ministry for alleged abuse of their wives and children. Members of the sect lived in Jerusalem and Tiveria.
