Rights Group Against Yitzhar Orders

Civil rights groups on the left and right of the political spectrum have found common ground in rejecting the administrative restraining orders issued Tuesday to residents of Yitzhar. The Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) said, “Issuing administrative detention orders with no trial, without giving people a fair chance to address the charges against them, strikes a deep blow to basic human rights and opens the gate to arbitrary use of power.”

“While there is a pressing need to enforce the law in the territories [Judea and Samaria – ed.] and to prevent violence against the Palestinian population, the use of restraining orders actually shows insufficient normative law enforcement – catching suspects, investigating them, and putting them on trial,” the group added.
