Dozens of Jewish worshipers visited the tomb of Elazar the Cohen early on Tuesday morning, in coordination with the IDF. The tomb is located in the Palestinian Authority-controlled village of Awarta, next to Itamar in Samaria.
Only a small group was given permission to enter because of concerns that the visit would be particularly sensitive due to the Muslim holiday of Ramadan. In addition, the visit took place shortly before a resident of Awarta was convicted of murdering five members of a family from Itamar.
