The Knesset executive committee decided, on Monday, that the summer session of the assembly will not be extended. Representatives of the Kadima and Shas parties, who wanted the extension, were in the minority of a vote by Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin and his deputies.
Rivlin said among the factors was the timing of the recess to coincide with the Israeli school vacation and the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. He added that most of the leaders of the various Knesset factions did not express support for an extension, which was sought by Shas and Kadima to address the ongoing protests of the shortage of affordable housing.
