Lebanese President Blames Israel for Border Incident

President Michel Suleiman of Lebanon accused Israel, on Monday, of trying to create a provocation with Lebanese troops during the early morning hours. Addressing a Lebanese Army Day observance, Suleiman said, "This morning, Israel tried to provoke the Lebanese army and we confronted them."

Israel had reported that a Lebanese soldier opened fire on an Israeli patrol in the Har Dov area and Israeli troops returned fire. Despite initial reports that the Lebanese soldier was killed or wounded by return Israeli fire, a United Nations investigator said there were not casualities on either side. The investigation continues.
