Governor Stanley Fisher of the Bank of Israel said, Monday morning, that he was surprised by the recently-started demonstrations for affordable housing. Addressing reporters at a news conference, Fisher called the situation very dramatic. He continued, "Recent developments in the Israeli economy came as a surprise, at least to me, and I guess to many people, because there were not many signs before."
Fisher added, "It's also surprising because, according to all the economic data, the economy is in very good condition with a low rate of unemployment. But it's impossible not to be impressed by what's happening in the tents and a demonstration of 150,000 people."
