High Court: Katzav Appeal to be Open

A three-judge panel of the Supreme Court ruled, on Sunday, that the appeal of former president Moshe Katzav of his conviction and seven-year sentence on sexual offenses will be heard in public. The state had asked that the appeal be heard behind closed doors like Katzav's trial.

The judges cited the publicity the case has received so far and called on the sides to maintain the form determined in the rulings of the district court that passed sentence. They also allowed that certain matters could be heard behind closed doors at the request of either side.
