Tens of thousands of people in Yemen protested Saturday for the ouster of President Ali Abdullah Saleh and in support of a newly formed transitional council. The council was proposed as a transitional vehicle before free elections, and was at first supported by Saleh. He subsequently removed his support from the plan.
Saleh is still in Saudi Arabia receiving treatments for burns and wounds he sustained in an attack by tribesmen on his palace in Sana'a in June. He has vowed to return. Saleh has been running Yemen since 1978.
