Iran said Sunday that two American hikers being held as spies could be released after a court hearing later in the day. Their Iranian attorney said that the fact that the hearing is to take place on the second anniversary of their arrest, and that it comes a day before Ramadan, was a “positive sign” for the release of Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal.
The attorney said that so far no evidence has been presented to indicate they were spies. “The espionage charge is irrelevant, and the charge of illegal entry is inconsistent with the facts. There was no clear border line and my clients are not guilty. I've provided a sufficient defense," he said.
