Soccer Chief Supports Longer Weekend

Chairman Avi Luzon of the Israel Football Associaton expressed support, this week, for a proposal to introduce a two-day weekend to Israel. In a letter to Deputy Prime Minister Silvan Shalom, Luzon said the proposal would allow more people to attend matches and more young players to develop without worrying about the restrictions of the Jewish Sabbath.

Shalom is leading the effort to extend the weekend. More than 100 ministers, Knesset members, local leaders, businessmen and women, organization leaders, artists, and representatives of Galilee and Negev development groups met in his office on Thursday to promote the cause.
