Security officials seized 12 cellphones from families of security prisoners at the Shita prison in northern Israel Thursday morning. The family members were trying to smuggle the banned phones into the prison, for use by the security prisoners they were visiting. The families were trying to smuggle the phones inside phony hard-covered “books” that appeared suspicious to the security officials at the prison. The books were confiscated and examined, and the phones were discovered inside.
The family members were arrested and are under questioning, and their visiting privileges have been revoked. The prisoners will now face a disciplinary hearing.
