Protesters broke past security guards Thursday morning and entered into the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange's headquarters and held a protest in the lobby. Dozens more protesters were gathered outside the building. Police said the situation was calm, and that they cleared the building of protesters.
A spokesperson for the protesters said that they were worried about the fate of billions of shekels in pension plans, which are under the control of billionaires who are not looking out for the interests of retirees. While the Israeli economy is strong, the protesters said, most of that wealth remains in the pockets of TASE investors, and does not “trickle down” to the rest of Israelis.
