Court Rejects 'Jenin, Jenin' Slander Suit

The Supreme Court has rejected a lawsuit filed by IDF soldiers against the makers of the film “Jenin, Jenin.” The soldiers, who fought in Jenin in 2002, accused filmmaker Mohammed Bakri of slander.

Justices agreed that Bakri had made serious accusations against the soldiers, but decided to uphold the Petach Tikva District Court's decision not to allow the suit because the slander did not target any specific individual.

The Supreme Court previously upheld Bakri's demand to show the film despite the fact that it falsely accuses IDF soldiers of a variety of war crimes. “The fact that the film includes lies is not enough to justify a ban,” said Justice Dalia Dorner at the time.
