Shekel, Dollar Down

The official value of the shekel declined an average of an eighth of a percent, Tuesday, in mixed trading against most of the currencies on the Bank of Israel's foreign exchange list. The United States dollar was fixed at NIS 3.398, down .293 percent from Monday's rate, while the Euro rose .509 percent to 4.921 shekels.

The pound sterling was set at NIS 5.5719, up .396 percent, while the South African rand, buoyed by Monday's record gold prices, rose 1.274 percent to .5086 shekels.
