A group of 20 doctors was marching from Ramat Gan to Jerusalem Monday evening, in protest over the lack of a deal between doctors and the government on salary and work schedule issues. The doctors are expected to continue walking for several days in the morning and evening hours, taking a break during the heat of the day. Dr. Leonid Idelman, head of the Doctors' Union, said that the doctors would set up a tent city opposite the Prime Minister's office when they reach Jerusalem.
Speaking at union headquarters in Ramat Gan, where the marchers departed from, Idelman said that “the public health system in Israel is falling apart, both in the periphery and the center of the country. We plan on marching to Jerusalem to hold a large demonstration” in order to emphasize doctors' frustration with the situation, Idelman said.
