Treasury Seeks Arbitration with Doctors

The Treasury said, Thursday evening, that there was no choice but to seek arbitration following the backing off of the Israel Medical Federation from agreements reached in recent talks. The Finance Ministry issued a statement which said the decision came, "In light of the event of the past few days, which are characterized by a loss of control, which we found out about first in the media, according to which the medical federation decided to pull out of written agreements which were formulated under the patronage of the court...."

The statement continued, "We're sorry that a year of intensive work could go down the drain and we'll act to reach a fast resolution [of the situation] in order to prevent harm to the ailing sector of the public, which has paid a heavy price during the long months of an unnecessary strike."
