A man suspected of starting a massive fire in the Jerusalem forest has been released to house arrest. The suspect, a 50-year-old resident of the Beit Zayit neighborhood, is believed to have accidentally started the fire when he was burning trash in his courtyard.
Police said the investigation into his alleged involvement is not yet over.
The fire burned more than 150 dunams of forest, and led to the evacuation of the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Museum and several homes, as well as the closure of an entrance to Jerusalem. Eight people suffered smoke inhalation due to the blaze.
