Doctors in Sheba Medical Center have successfully completed an operation to amputate a 13-year-old girl's arm in order to save her from a cancerous growth. The operation was made possible after a court overruled the girl's mother, who had forbidden the amputation.
The court ruled that while parents are normally allowed to make medical decisions for their minor children, in this case the mother's wishes would be ignored due to doctors' findings that amputation was absolutely necessary in order to save the child's life.
