New Air Terminal for Eilat
The government on Monday authorized establishment of a new air terminal in the Eilat area. The Ramon air terminal will be established at the Ovdat airfield north of Eilat, and will replace the existing airport in Eilat as the destination for foreign and domestic flights.
The decision came during a discussion on developing the tourist potential of the Eilat area. The discussion also encompassed views of MKs and ministers on expanding Israel Railways service to Eilat, resulting in a a heated debate between Transport Minister Yisrael Katz and Negev and Galilee Development Minister Silvan Shalom, both of whom see their ministries as the proper authority for the project.
