Steinitz: Open Dairy Market to Imports

Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz said Sunday that Israel should open up the dairy market to foreign competition. This would be the best way to lower dairy prices, he said.

Steinitz said that the needs of Israel's 7 million consumers were more important that the needs of dairy farmers and processors, who needed to become more efficient and improve their products. If they do so, he added, there would be great benefits after a period of pain, as they themselves would become exporters and make even more money.
