The center of Jerusalem was calm Sunday, after protests on Shabbat by Hareidi groups demanding that the Carta parking lot near the Old City be closed on Shabbat. Unrest ensued, with police charging the crowd of hundreds, and protesters throwing objects at police on horseback. Two protesters were arrested.
Police said Sunday that they were prepared to continue keeping order in the city. Groups in Meah Shearim have called for a continuation of protests.
