The government Committee on Dairy Prices is likely to recommend that the Treasury restore subsidies for dairy farmers, with the objective reducing the price of dairy products by as much as 8%. The committee is set to recommend subsidies after farmers refused to lower prices without government support, claiming that they were already making very slim profits. According to farmers, they receive only 19 agurot per liter of milk, with manufacturers, distributors and retailers responsible for the high cost of milk and dairy products.

The committee is also likely to recommend that prices for some dairy products be supervised by the government, a move the Treasury opposes. It is unlikely to recommend allowing imports of dairy products, as several MKs have called for. The Committee is set to present its report Sunday.
