Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez made a surprise return to his country Sunday night, after having undergone cancer surgery in Cuba. Chavez has been out of the country for three months, undergoing pelvic surgery and recuperating in a Cuban hospital.
In footage aired Monday morning by the state controlled TV station, Chavez was shown saying goodby to Cuban leader Raul Castro. “Raul and Fidel almost boarded the plane with me,” he said. “Venezuela and Cuba are the same thing, the same country -- the great country.” He added that he planned to make a presidential address Monday night.
