A gathering on behalf of respect for the Torah has been scheduled for Monday evening at 6:30 opposite the Supreme Court building in Jerusalem, following this week's detention of Kiryat Arba-Hevron Rabbi Dov Lior for questioning regarding his endorsement of the book Torat Hamelech, which includes statements on the treatement of non-Jews during times of war.
Organizers say the gathering is "on behalf of the independence of the Torah and its subjects," and "to protest the contempt for the Torah [displayed] in the unjustified and scandalous arrest of Rabbi Dov Lior." They continued, "We will not agree to the silencing of Torah scholars who are clarifying Jewish law, and this [book] is not [to be interpreted as] incitement or anything [else]."
