Nobody is above the law, Police Commissioner Yochanan Danino said Wednesday in response to criticism over the arrest of Rabbi Dov Lior. “The rule of law depends on equal enforcement of the law, enforcement that does not discriminate against anybody or prefer anybody,” he said.

Rabbi Dov Lior was arrested for alleged incitement. His supporters have protested on his behalf, and in some cases have used civil disobedience, blocking streets and public spaces. Danino warned protesters that if they disrupt the public, they will be arrested.

Protesters have accused police of unfairly discriminating against religious Zionists and the political right.
