The World Zionist Organization (WZO) in concerned over the recent report presented to the Zionist General Committeee (ZGC). According to the report, there are less Hebrew speakers in the diaspora in recent years. This is due to an increase in Hebrew school tuition rates, causing less Zionist education, and less immigration to Israel.
The Chairman of the WZO Avraham Duvdevani explained that the organization cannot allow the diaspora to go without Hebrew education. Future generations must have an affinity to the language. Jewish leadership must speak Hebrew as part of its Jewish heritage awareness. Duvdevani also said that to confront this worrisome phenomena, 15 pairs of emissaries will be sent to schools in Latin America, from Mexico to Chile to promote Zionism and Hebrew awareness in the various communities. The teams will undergo specified informal education training for this purpose.
At the Jerusalem ZGC convention this week, Zionist Leaders of the diaspora also pledged to promote immigration and settlement in Israel, as part of the overseas education solution.
