Gantz: No Change in Wording of Memorial Prayer

Chief-of-Staff Benny Gantz said Tuesday that there has been no change in the wording of a memorial prayer recited at military observances. Gantz said every unit is authorized to say "May G-d remember..." or "May the people of Israel remember...." He added that the wording has been in place since shortly after the Six-Day War of 1967 and that he was not involved in the matter.

It was reported last week that the lieutenant-general had authorized a change from "May the people of Israel remember..." to "May G-d remember...." Yediot Acharonot reporter Menashe Raz asked him to change it back, saying that many shared his view that the people were the ones who should be asked to remember fallen soldiers.
