Rare heavy rains fell in the Haifa area Monday afternoon, a continuation of showers that brought drizzle and heavier periods of rain to much of the Western Galilee throughout the day Monday. Forecasters said that rain in mid-June is extremely rare, but not historically unprecedented. Residents said that the rains were “worthy of winter,” calling the June wet weather “a psychological cloudburst.”
Forecasters said that more rain is expected Monday night, and could extend into Tuesday morning. Temperatures in the center of the country will be lower than usual for this time of year. A warming trend is expected later in the week.
