The United States holds Syria responsible for the violence on the Golan Heights Sunday, a State Department spokesperson said Monday. The spokesperson said that Syria encouraged the rioters to throw stones and rocks at IDF troops and to attempt to break through the border fence in order to provoke a conflict.
“This is clearly a Syrian attempt to stir up protests of this type,” the spokesperson said. “Israel, like all countries, has a right to defend itself,” the spokesperson added.
