After many complaints by the public and teachers, the Education Ministry announced Monday that the change in school schedules, with classes commencing in the last week of August, would be postponed until next year. The current school year will begin as usual, at the beginning of September.
Sa'ar made the announcement after a meeting by Education Minister Gideon Sa'ar and the Director-General of the Israel Teachers' Union, whose membership had been sharply opposed to the change. The teachers complained that the change – just months before the beginning of the school year – would force them to change vacation plans they had already made, and interfere with their ability to prepare properly for the new school year.
