Law Attempts to Stifle Dagan-Like Comments

Member of Knesset Robert Tiviaev (Kadima) initiated a bill on Monday that would keep senior security officials from speaking out in public for two years after leaving office. The bill follow's comments last week by former Mossad intelligience chief Meir Dagan that Israel should not attack Iran over its nuclear development program.

MK Tiviaev said, "The phenomenon of senior officers taking off their uniforms and then taking off their muzzles is unacceptable and it endangers democracy and government stability. Therefore it is proper to cool off the enthusiasm of those officers and prevent them  from expressing themselves in public in a way that can cause harm to the citizens of the state of Israel."
