The Nature Preservation Society (Hevra L'haganat Hateva) filed a petition with the High Court Monday against Interior Minister Eli Yishai's plan to open for development of some 11,000 dunams of land that are currently classified a nature reserve. The Society said that the Nachal Shilo reserve, next to the town of Elad, had been set up 17 years ago and was now a large and thriving forest.
The petition says that Yishai, who had orginally approved plans to ensure that the forest would remain as a nature reserve, was now backing away from that plan in order to expand Elad.
