Former National Security Advisor Giora Eiland, who was in charge of the IDF's investigation of the 2010 Turkish flotilla, suggested Sunday that the IDF allow ships in the next flotilla to reach Gaza, if Turkey is willing to accept responsibility to ensure that no weapons or items that could be used by terrorists are brought in by ship. A flotilla, with the participation of ships from Turkey and several European nations, is set to leave for Gaza at the end of June.
In an interview with Israel Radio, Eiland said that Turkey could prevent a confrontation between the IDF and the flotilla ships by accepting responsibility for the contents of the flotilla's ships, just like Egypt has accepted responsibility to ensure that no weapons or missiles are smuggled in through the newly opened Rafiah crossing.
