Chaim Avraham, father of the late soldier Beni Avraham who was killed by Hizbullah terrorists in 2000 and whose body was then held by the organization, criticized on Thursday former Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi for his remarks that Israel does not know where kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit is being held.

“These are irresponsible statements,” Avraham told Arutz Sheva’s Hebrew website. “When he was in office and the responsibility lay on his shoulders he did not say these things. To say them now is not wise. If Israel does not know [where Shalit is], why he did not say that while he was in uniform?”

Abraham added that he believes Ashkenazi’s statement have weakened Israel in the case of Shalit.
