Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Sunday evening, "We hope that quiet will return quickly, but let nobody make a mistake. We are determined to guard our borders." Netanyahu noted that thousands had massed on Israel's borders and some had gotten through as hostile Arabs marked the 63rd anniversary of the founding of Israel on the secular calendar.
The prime minister said the Arabs are declaring that they are not just interested in returning to the 1949 cease-fire lines but undermining the existence of the state of Israel, which they view as a "catastrophe" which has to be corrected. He added, "It's important that we look at reality with watchful eyes and know who we are dealing with and what we are dealing with."
