Proposal: 7-8 Day Paternity Leave

MK Uri Ariel (Ichud Leumi) has proposed a law that would give men a week-long paternity leave if their partner has a child. If the child is a boy, the leave would be extended to eight days, to allow the man to attend his son's brit milah (ritual circumcision).

“The current maternity leave is meant for the mother, so that she can care for her baby,” Ariel said. “However, the law ignored the fact that the mother also needs to recover from birth, and that getting help from her husband in the first week after birth is a need, which the law should recognize.”
