Ketzaleh: Shalit Family Wasn't Elected

MK Yaakov “Ketzaleh” Katz (Ichud Leumi) spoke out Wednesday against attempts by the family of kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit and their supporters to intervene in state policy regarding negotiations for Shalit. “The Shalit family was not elected to run the state of Israel... With all due respect to Noam Shalit, the Shalit family cannot run the country. If he wants to, he can run for Knesset,” Ketzaleh said.

“There is no national consensus when it comes to the price to be paid for Shalit,” Ketzaleh continued. “The public has never seen the data on the number of people who could be killed for Shalit's freedom, so that it could decide what price is acceptable.”

He concluded, “The government of the United States has never given in to terrorists in exchange for captives, and there is no reason that Israel should give in.”
