A two-minute siren at 11:00 a.m. on Monday will mark the start of Memorial Day observances at Mt. Herzl in Jerusalem and other military cemeteries around the country. At 1:00 p.m. there will be a ceremony at Mt. Herzl to remember the victims of terror. A ceremony at the Underground Prisoners' Museum in Akko will remember those who fell while fighting in the pre-state militias, including those hung by the British Mandatory authorities.
Since 1860, the number killed has reached 22,867. Of those 183 were killed in the last year.
