Some 12,000 people are still missing as a result of the recent earthquake/tsunami in Japan, and the government there has decided to dedicate large resources to recovering whatever bodies it can. Nearly 25,000 soldiers will be dispatched Monday to the affected area in the northeast of the country to search for victims, on the shore and under buildings that collapsed. Assisting in the effort will be Japanese police and American soldiers stationed in Japan.
Japanese officials said that the danger of a radioactive leak from affected nuclear power plants had fallen significantly in recent days. However, authorities were still monitoring the situation, the officials said.
