A soldier was killed and 25 other people were wounded Monday when a car bomb was detonated in the city of Yala in southern Thailand, according to the Associated Press
. A senior police officer said the improvised explosive device was set off as a pickup truck carrying paramilitary officers passed by.
Police suspect Muslim rebels in the blast. Yala is located in one of three provinces where the insurgency has killed 4,300 people in the last seven years.
