Advertisements in several of the weekly Torah pamphlets distributed in the religious-Zionist community on the Sabbath called on readers not to ascend the Temple Mount. Ascending the mount is forbidden by Torah law at this time, the ads said.

Rabbi Israel Ariel of the Temple Mount institute slammed the ads in an interview with Arutz Sheva on Tuesday. “Unfortunately, there are some religious-Zionist rabbis who are Satmar rabbis with a blue and white flag,” he said, referring to the notoriously anti-Zionist Satmar chassidic sect. “How can they call themselves Zionists, if they oppose ascent to the Holy Temple?”

The subject of ascent of the Temple Mount has long been a controversial one, with some rabbis saying it is praiseworthy at all times, while others say it is prohibited due to the Jewish people's state of ritual impurity.
