Seder for 1,200 Ethiopians in Jaffa

The Aviv Hatorah organization is scheduled to hold a Pesach (Passover) Seder meal for 1,200 members of the Ethiopian Jewish community living in Yafo (Jaffa) this year. The service, recounting the Biblical Exodus from Egypt, will be conducted in Amharic by Rabbi Yehuda Sahala, the community's leader, who was trained by Aviv Hatorah.

Aviv Hatorah also established a network of kindergartens and daycare centers for parents who refused to send their children to integrated facilities in the city. Dozens of students from the Amit Havruta yeshiva in Ra'anana took part in a renovation project for Ethiopian immigrant familes in Yafo Gimmel last week after Manager Ruth Sopher of the Tel Aviv-Yafo municipality's volunteer department found a donor to subsidize the program.
