Minister of Homefront Defense Matan Vilnai toured the border fence being built between Israel and Egypt on Tuesday. Vilnai praised the project, saying, “For the first time since signing a peace reaty with Egypt, we are creating a technologically advanced solution on the border.”
“We are in a constant battle with extremists who want to hurt us in various ways, including smuggling weapons to Gaza by sea, attempting to kidnap Israelis in Sinai, and carrying out terrorist attacks along Israel's southern border.... This fence is another important means by which to improve Israel's defenses,” he said.
The fence is also meant to stop the growing problem of illegal immigration to Israel.
