Defense Minister Ehud Barak, and IAF Commander General Iddo Nechushtan visited the first operational ‘Iron Dome’ battery today.
During the visit, Barak said, “We stand here with the city of Be’er Sheva behind us, and witness an exceptional accomplishment of Israeli technology, and of the Military Industries. It is also an operational accomplishment for the IAF: The first operational ‘Iron Dome’ battery has been deployed with unprecedented speed.
“We begin an operational experiment with this battery today, an experiment that will continue in the next few weeks. The system will move to other locations, and will be joined by another battery soon, with more to be added in the next few years. We will eventually provide the citizens of Israel with a wide defense against rockets and missiles. We will add an additional layer of defense - the ‘Magic Wand’- in a few years, alongside the ‘Arrow’ and ‘Super Arrow’ systems. We will achieve a more massive national defense over the next decade,” he added.
