The Tel Aviv District Court is scheduled to pronounce sentencing Tuesday on former president Moshe Katzav for his convictions in December on charges of rape, sexual harassment, committing an indecent act while using force, harassing a witness and obstruction of justice.
The state is seeking a long jail sentence, compensation for the victims and having his crimes described as ones of moral turpitude, which would be an obstacle to Katzav's returning to office. Defense attorneys claim Katzav was persecuted by the media.
