A Libyan government spokesman quoted by the British Broadcasting Corporation announced Sunday evening that a cease fire by troops loyal to Libyan lead Muamar Qaddafi went into effect at 9:00 p.m. local time. The spokesman added that Libya was dealing with "barbaric agression" on the part of Western powers.

Before the cease fire went into effect, Libya used anti-aircraft fire against Western aircraft. The fire originated in the capital Tripoli.
