Thousands of people took part in a demonstration Sunday in the southern Syrian city of Dar'a during a visit by a governmental delegation, according to Reuters's Arabic service. It marked the third straight day of demonstrations in the city. The delegation came to pay a condolence call on families of people killed in clashes between demonstrators and security forces last week.

In an effort to ease tensions, the government promised to free 15 youths who were arrested during the demonstrations. It also decided to establish a committee to investigate the deaths and wounding of others last week.
