Witnesses on Sunday said that forces loyal to Muammar Qaddafi had managed to enter the rebel-held city of Misrata, and that Qaddafi-backed snipers were taking up positions on top of buildings in the city and shooting at rebel forces. Qaddafi-backed forces have been encircling the city since Saturday.

One witness told reporters from Reuters that "Snipers are still stationed on three buildings in the main street of the town. They seem to be ready to fire at anything that moves ... Nobody dares pass through that street. Misrata is quiet today but Qaddafi's brigades are still on the outskirts, surrounding it."
